Public holiday announced on May 1

Educational institutions and local councils will also observe the holiday

25 April 2025

The Government of Sindh has officially declared May 1, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate International Labour Day, paying tribute to the dedication, rights, and contributions of workers in the province.

A notification issued on Friday by the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department confirmed the closure of government and semi-government offices on Thursday. Educational institutions, including schools, colleges, universities, and local councils, will also observe the holiday, allowing citizens to celebrate the occasion meaningfully.

International Labour Day, observed globally as May Day, highlights the pivotal role of workers in society while advocating for their rights, social justice, and equitable labor practices. Sindh’s observance includes awareness programs, peaceful protests, and cultural activities, emphasizing workplace harmony, economic equality, and occupational safety.

Despite Sindh taking the lead, other provinces such as Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) have yet to announce similar holidays.
