In a significant step toward deepening bilateral ties, a high-level United States Congressional delegation met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, during an official visit to Islamabad.
The meeting, held under the banner of strengthening strategic cooperation, was led by Congressman Jack Bergman and included Congressmen Thomas Suozzi and Jonathan Jackson.
According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), both sides engaged in a productive discussion focusing on mutual interests, regional stability, and defence collaboration. The US lawmakers praised Pakistan’s military for its unwavering role in the fight against terrorism and lauded the resilience shown by the Pakistani nation over the years.
“I appreciate your visit to Pakistan and I wish to further deepen and broaden the longstanding partnership between our two nations,” said General Munir, expressing gratitude for the visit.
The delegation reaffirmed its respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty and expressed a strong desire to expand cooperation not only in the area of security but also across trade, investment, and economic development. This comes at a time when regional stability and counter-terrorism efforts remain high on both countries’ priority lists.
Before the military engagement, both the US and Pakistani sides held in-depth discussions on enhancing bilateral relations. Key areas of focus included trade opportunities, border management, and economic growth, especially in light of evolving regional challenges.
Pakistan's Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker, and Interior Secretary Khurram Agha were present during the talks, emphasizing the importance both governments place on high-level dialogue and cooperation.
