Pakistan’s National Security Adviser, Lt. Gen. Asim Malik, has held a high-stakes conversation with US Secretary Rubio amid escalating tensions with India.
The discussion focused on the urgent security situation in South Asia following India’s missile attacks on multiple locations in Pakistan. Sources say more details of this critical diplomatic contact will be revealed soon.
The conversation comes as Pakistan has launched a powerful counteroffensive, downing three Indian fighter jets in response to the strikes. This marks a significant military escalation after India targeted five Pakistani cities, including civilian areas and religious sites.
Director General ISPR, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, confirmed that India attacked Kotli, Ahmadpur East (Bahawalpur), Muzaffarabad, Bagh, and Muridke. One of the missiles directly hit Subhanullah Mosque in Ahmadpur East, killing and injuring civilians — an act Pakistan has condemned as cowardly.
In immediate response, Pakistan closed its airspace and canceled all flights. Aviation authorities announced a 48-hour airspace lockdown and issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen). Rescue efforts are in full swing across the affected areas.
Authorities have urged the public to stay calm, cooperate with law enforcement, and follow official guidance as the government and military formulate the next steps.
