Hailstorm followed by heavy rain wreaked havoc in Islamabad on Saturday evening, damaging vehicles, disrupting traffic, and even leaving a mark on one of Pakistan’s most iconic landmarks — the Shah Faisal Mosque.
The ferocity of the hailstorm broke the glass windows of cars parked in different areas of the city, reports say. But the most appalling effect was witnessed at Faisal Mosque, where the storm shattered glass windows and doors, damaged sections of the roof, and hailstones even dropped inside the mosque. Thankfully, no one was injured as devotees and personnel took cover in time.
Waterlogging was witnessed in most areas, including Islamabad's high-security Red Zone and near the Parliament House, resulting in serious traffic jams. Commuters were stuck for hours as waterlogged roads rendered movement very challenging.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted further rain and potential hailstorms in the next few days, advising citizens to exercise caution and stay informed about weather warnings.
