A senior US Congress delegation, which is in Pakistan right now, met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to discuss several top-priority issues of concern, specifically regional security, counter-terrorism, and defence cooperation.

The delegation, led by Congressman Jack Bergman and joined by Thomas Suozzi and Jonathan Jackson, had a detailed dialogue with the Army Chief. The two sides stressed the need for creating stronger relationships on the basis of mutual respect, common values, and strategic interests, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated.

US legislators complimented the Pakistan Armed Forces on their decisive contribution towards the war against terrorism and recognised Pakistan's unwavering contribution towards peace and stability at the regional level. The delegation also recognised the strategic significance of Pakistan and praised the resilience of its people.

Emphasising the appreciation for Pakistan's sovereignty, the delegation conveyed strong devotion towards deepening bilateral cooperation on matters such as security, trade, investment, and economic growth.

General Syed Asim Munir valued the visit and reaffirmed Pakistan's intent to strengthen its long-term association with the United States, which is respectful and reciprocal of one another's national interests.

At the meeting, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were also exchanged for training cooperation in the sector of Information Technology, as another step towards strategic and forward-looking cooperation.
