Third Day of US Attacks on Iran as IRGC Carries Out Strikes on US Military Sites

The United States carried out a third consecutive night of strikes on Iran as President Donald Trump announced plans to bring back a naval blockade on Iranian ports and proposed a 20% charge on cargo passing through the important Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said a possible agreement with Iran was still on the table despite the ongoing attacks. The United Arab Emirates said Iran had targeted two ships in the strategic waterway, killing one crew member.

The US military said its five-hour operation targeted locations across Iran, including coastal areas such as Bushehr and Bandar Abbas. The Pentagon said the strikes were aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping.

Following the US attacks, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they launched missile and drone strikes against US facilities in Bahrain, including a residential area used by American forces.

Trump said the US would continue its military action, warning that further strikes would follow. He also announced plans to tighten restrictions around the Strait of Hormuz, saying the US would impose a 20% fee on cargo moving through the key shipping route.

The latest escalation comes after the US and Iran carried out their heaviest attacks since a ceasefire agreement in April, raising concerns about efforts to end the conflict permanently.

Iran had earlier restricted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz after US and Israeli attacks in February. The restrictions were later eased after both sides reached a preliminary agreement in June.

Iran criticised Trump’s blockade announcement, accusing the US of acting illegally and calling the move an act of “piracy.”
