Legendary Punjabi actor Sultan Rahi passed away 30 years ago, leaving a lasting mark on Pakistani cinema.
Known as the “King of Art,” he became the voice of rural youth.
His films and achievements continue to inspire generations across Pakistan and abroad.
Sultan Rahi starred in over 700 films, including 500 as lead actor, earning a Guinness World Record.
He began with a small role in Baghi, but Bashira brought him superstardom.
His pairing with Mustafa Qureshi delivered multiple box-office hits, including the iconic Maula Jatt, which set new industry records.
Other notable films included Babul, Sadha Rasta, Sharif Badmaash, Wahshi Jatt, Sher Khan, Sholay, and Aakhri Jung.
He won over 150 film awards and shared the screen with top actresses including Anjuman, Saima, Neeli, Gori, Asia, and Babra Sharif.
His performances defined Punjabi action cinema for decades.
Rahi was deeply religious, performing five daily prayers and observing Ramadan fasts.
He funded mosques, supported orphaned girls’ marriages, and once personally reopened a locked mosque during filming.
He also released CDs of Quranic recitations and naats, earning widespread admiration for his devotion and charity.
Tragically, Sultan Rahi was murdered on January 9, 1996, during a robbery on the Gujranwala bypass.
His killer remains unidentified even after three decades.
Despite this, Rahi’s cinematic legacy and personal virtues make him an unforgettable icon in Pakistan’s cultural history.
