The Punjab government has announced that this year’s Basant festival in Lahore will be allowed only on February 6, 7, and 8, while kite flying remains prohibited in the rest of the province.
The decision aims to celebrate cultural tradition safely while protecting the public from avoidable harm.
The Punjab Home Department has issued clear instructions to all commissioners, deputy commissioners, RPOs, and DPOs to strictly enforce the Kite Flying Regulations Bill 2025.
Authorities expressed concern over illegal kite flying in previous years, which has led to injuries and casualties among passers-by, highlighting the serious risk to human life and public safety.
The directives emphasise that preparing or flying kites outside the permitted area and period is strictly illegal, and violators including manufacturers, suppliers, and participants may face legal action.
All districts are also required to report to the Home Department, confirming compliance with these measures.
This step balances cultural celebration with public safety, ensuring that citizens can enjoy Basant in Lahore while protecting lives across the province.
