Amid widespread speculation, Faiz Hamid, former chief of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), will not become an approver in any case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, according to his lawyer.
Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq dismissed reports suggesting otherwise as “speculative and baseless,” emphasizing that there is no truth to claims circulating in certain media and political circles.
The clarification comes in the backdrop of repeated statements by some federal ministers and politicians, who have hinted that the former spy chief might testify against Imran Khan.
These claims also tie into the events of May 9, 2023, when violence erupted across parts of the country following Imran’s arrest.
However, Ashfaq stressed that such reports are unfounded and misleading, highlighting that Faiz has no intention of implicating the PTI founder.
Despite government assertions of a possible nexus between Imran and Faiz, the military’s media wing (ISPR) has not publicly confirmed any such connection.
Legal experts note that public speculation can often fuel misinformation, and Ashfaq’s statement underscores the importance of fact-based reporting rather than unverified narratives.
The matter remains sensitive, and authorities have been urged to ensure transparency and adherence to due process, respecting the rights and reputations of all individuals involved.
