Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has strongly criticized the recent suspension of the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Act 2025, warning that the decision could benefit the powerful land mafia at the expense of ordinary citizens.
In a statement, Maryam Nawaz said the law was designed to resolve long-standing land and property disputes within just 90 days—a first in the province’s history. “This law was created to help millions of Punjabis who have suffered for decades under complicated land disputes. For the first time, it gave the public the legal power to protect their property,” she said.
She emphasized that the legislation was carefully crafted to ensure justice for the oppressed, covering both administrative and legal aspects. “The court’s decision is not aligned with the established principles of the higher judiciary. Its suspension will be seen as backing the land mafia, while the law itself protects the marginalized and vulnerable,” she added.
Maryam Nawaz also stressed that the law was not made for her personal benefit, but for the countless people who have been victims of long-standing property disputes. “Stopping this law doesn’t harm me personally—it harms widows, the poor, the helpless, and those seeking justice. It is the constitutional right of the provincial assembly to make such laws, and this cannot be obstructed,” she said.
The Punjab Chief Minister warned that delaying or blocking the law could shatter the hopes of those waiting for justice, leaving many to continue suffering under powerful land grabbers.
