PM Shehbaz open to talks with PTI, rejects illegal demands

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again expressed the government’s readiness to engage in talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), making it clear that meaningful dialogue is possible only if it is serious, lawful, and free from pressure tactics.

Speaking during a federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister said that PTI and its allies have recently been talking about negotiations. He stressed that if the opposition is genuinely interested, the government is equally open to discussions. However, he drew a firm line against what he described as illegal demands and political blackmail.

The prime minister reminded participants that he has repeatedly conveyed the same message on the floor of parliament. “If PTI is serious about negotiations, the government of Pakistan is ready to sit down and talk,” he said. “But dialogue cannot move forward on the basis of unlawful demands or threats. Only legitimate issues can be discussed.”

Highlighting the broader national interest, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that political harmony is essential for Pakistan’s progress and economic stability. He said the country cannot afford prolonged political confrontation and needs cooperation among all political forces to move forward.
