Pakistan and Libya have taken a significant step toward strengthening their defence relationship as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held high-level talks with Libya’s top military leadership during an official visit to the country.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday, Field Marshal Asim Munir met Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar. The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, evolving regional security dynamics, and ways to enhance military-to-military cooperation between the two countries.

The discussions highlighted the growing importance of Pakistan Libya defence cooperation, with both sides exploring new opportunities to deepen bilateral ties in key areas. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, was also present during the meeting, underlining the importance Libya attaches to the engagement.

Upon his arrival in Libya, Field Marshal Asim Munir was accorded a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces, reflecting the warm reception and mutual respect between the two militaries.

The ISPR said both sides emphasized collaboration in training, capacity building, and counter-terrorism efforts, areas seen as crucial for addressing shared security challenges. Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to expanding defence relations with Libya, stressing that cooperation would be guided by shared interests and mutual trust.
