Pakistanis may finally catch a breath of relief as the government is expected to slash petroleum prices by up to Rs11 per litre in the next four days. If approved, this petroleum price reduction could bring significant relief to consumers already struggling with high inflation.

According to reports, the new rates are likely to take effect from December 16, with initial calculations already completed by the concerned departments. Sources say the federal government is reviewing a proposal that suggests varied cuts across all major petroleum products.

As per the early estimates, petrol is expected to become cheaper by 36 paisas per litre, while high-speed diesel may see a sharp reduction of Rs11.85 per litre—the biggest drop among all fuels. Similarly, kerosene oil prices may fall by Rs11.70 per litre, and light diesel could become cheaper by Rs10.01 per litre.

Officials confirm that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will send the final price summary to the government on December 15. Once the prime minister signs off, the Petroleum Division will issue the new price notification.

If the proposed petroleum price reduction is implemented, petrol will cost Rs263.09 per litre, while high-speed diesel will be priced at Rs267.80 per litre. Kerosene oil may drop to Rs181.16 per litre, and light diesel is expected to settle at Rs153.76 per litre.
