Senator Faisal Vawda stated on Thursday that the sentencing of former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed represents the beginning of a broader accountability process in Pakistan.
Speaking to a private news channel, Vawda emphasized that once the May 9 cases are fully adjudicated, significant consequences could follow for the political party involved.
He noted that the political group linked to Faiz Hameed is already facing scrutiny and asserted that the ongoing processes are helping establish the principle that no individual is above the law in Pakistan.
Vawda cautioned that the May 9 trials could result in sentences of at least 14 years if the allegations are proven, raising questions about the future accountability of the party and its leadership.
Reflecting on his own expulsion from the party, he shared that he had repeatedly warned leadership against actions that could have irreversible consequences, yet he was removed from his position.
He stressed that Pakistan is now witnessing a long and fair pursuit of justice, where no one will be spared, ensuring that legal processes uphold accountability and the rule of law.
Vawda also highlighted that the case of slain journalist Arshad Sharif remains unresolved, noting that “the day Murad Saeed appears, the individuals responsible for that case will also be revealed,” reinforcing the broader commitment to justice and transparency.
