The Field General Court Martial (FGCM) has sentenced former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday.

According to the military’s media wing, the court martial proceedings against the former lieutenant general were initiated under the Pakistan Army Act and continued for more than 15 months.

The ISPR stated that Faiz Hamid faced four major charges, including involvement in political activities, violations of the Official Secrets Act, actions harmful to state security and interests, misuse of authority, misuse of government resources, and causing wrongful loss to individuals.

“After lengthy and painstaking legal proceedings, the accused has been found guilty on all charges and sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. The sentence was formally approved on December 11, 2025,” the statement added.

The ISPR emphasized that the Field General Court Martial followed all legal requirements, granting Faiz Hamid full rights, including access to a defence team of his own choosing.
“The convict also has the right to appeal before the relevant legal forum,” it said.

The press release further noted that the former general’s alleged role in “fomenting political agitation and instability in coordination with certain political elements” is being handled separately.

Arrest and investigation

Faiz Hamid was taken into military custody in August 2024 on allegations of misuse of power and violations of the Army Act. His arrest followed a petition submitted to the Supreme Court by the chief executive of Top City Housing Society, who accused him of land grabbing and stealing valuables during a raid on the society’s premises.

In December 2024, the ISPR confirmed that the former ISI chief had been formally charged with multiple offences, including political involvement and violations of the Official Secrets Act under the Pakistan Army Act.

The army’s media wing stated that—on the orders of the Supreme Court—a detailed inquiry was conducted into complaints related to the Top City case, which led to the initiation of the court martial process.

The inquiry also uncovered several violations of the Pakistan Army Act committed by Hamid even after his retirement. The former general previously served as Peshawar Corps Commander.

The ISPR added that three other retired officers were also arrested in connection with the same housing society case.
