Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a sweeping new Punjab digital security plan, directing all government departments to tighten surveillance and ensure foolproof protection around schools, public spaces, and major transport routes across the province.
According to official instructions, all schools and educational institutions will now be required to install digital surveillance cameras at their entrances and surrounding areas. Punjab Police has also been told to conduct joint mock exercises with the School Education Department to strengthen emergency response systems. Security guards, entry checking, and CCTV monitoring have been declared mandatory for every educational facility.
In a major security move, the provincial government has also decided to register drivers and staff of inter-provincial buses entering or leaving Punjab. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to coordinate with Motorway Police to enhance highway security.
Maryam Nawaz has ordered the Safe City Authority to conduct a province-wide functional review of surveillance cameras, ensuring that Lahore, Rawalpindi, and all major cities achieve complete CCTV coverage. She further directed that cameras installed in private homes and markets be connected to Safe City systems for real-time monitoring.
The chief minister’s Punjab digital security plan also includes enhanced combing operations to identify criminal elements promptly. To counter the issue of illegal Afghan nationals, the government will prepare a computerized record of citizens from other provinces living in Punjab. Deputy Commissioners and DPOs have been asked to maintain close contact with community elders to strengthen cooperation.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that no major public place in the province should remain without digital monitoring. She made it clear that she will “not rest until Punjab becomes the safest province in the country” and urged citizens to stay alert, report suspicious activities, and immediately call helpline 15 when needed.
