A flight disruption with IndiGo Airlines in India unexpectedly affected the celebrations of a newlywed couple, forcing Medha Kashre Sagar and Sangram Das to attend their own wedding reception online.
Medha, from Hubli, and Sangram, from Bhubaneswar, are both software engineers living in Bangalore.
The couple tied the knot on November 23 in Bhubaneswar, with a reception scheduled for December 3 in Hubli, where all arrangements had been completed and family members were already present.
The couple, along with a few relatives, had booked IndiGo flights from Bhubaneswar to Bangalore and then to Hubli on December 2, while other family members traveled via Mumbai.
Unfortunately, delays began early in the morning and continued to escalate, ultimately resulting in the cancellation of their flight on December 3.
Stranded with no alternative travel options, the couple joined their own celebration via video conference, while the bride’s parents formally took their place to complete the traditional rituals at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubli.
Reflecting on the situation, Medha’s father, Anil Kumar, told The Times of India, “Had we received prior notice, we could have arranged an alternative route.
Because of the short notice, the couple had to witness and participate in their own reception online.”
The incident highlights the resilience of families in maintaining traditions and celebrating milestones, even amid unforeseen challenges.
