Punjab announces winter holidays for all public and private schools

Punjab’s education department has officially announced winter holidays for all public and private schools across the province, giving students a much-awaited seasonal break.

The update was shared by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikander through his latest post on X, confirming the Pakistan winter vacation schedule for the province.

According to the minister, all schools in Punjab will remain closed from December 22 to January 10, marking a 20-day winter break. The announcement comes as temperatures continue to drop across the region, prompting authorities to prioritise student safety and comfort.

Just days earlier, the Ministry of Education issued the nationwide Pakistan winter vacation schedule, outlining different timelines for each province based on local weather conditions. This year’s plan varies significantly across the country, ensuring that every region’s unique climate is taken into account.

In Punjab, the extended schedule released by the provincial department mentions that winter holidays will begin on December 23, 2025, and continue until January 11, 2026, with schools reopening on January 13. Officials say the slight variation in dates aims to strike a balance between academic commitments and student well-being.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has adopted a split strategy due to its diverse climate. Schools in the plains will stay closed from December 22 to December 31, while institutions in snow-prone hilly regions will remain shut until February 29. Authorities explain that longer closures in colder districts are essential to keeping students safe from extreme winter conditions.

Meanwhile in Balochistan, where severe cold sets in earlier than the rest of the country, winter break begins on December 16 in high-altitude districts. Schools there will remain closed for nearly two and a half months, covering both public and private institutions operating in chilly regions.
