Seven peace committee members killed in terrorist attack in Bannu

At least seven members of a local peace committee were shot dead in a terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Friday, according to police officials.

The attack occurred in the Hoveed area around 9pm when armed terrorists opened fire on the peace committee’s office. Police said the sudden assault triggered an exchange of fire in which seven committee members were killed on the spot, while one other person sustained injuries. The bodies and the injured have been shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Bannu.

The deadly incident comes just a day after security forces carried out major counterterrorism actions across KP, eliminating 30 Indian-proxy Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in multiple operations. In Kurram district alone, security forces neutralised 12 terrorists and killed 11 more in separate encounters, according to the military’s media wing. Similar operations were conducted in Tank, Mohmand and Lakki Marwat, where additional militants were taken down.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp resurgence in terrorist attacks since 2021, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the return of the Afghan Taliban regime to power. A recent police report revealed that KP recorded more than 600 terror incidents in just the first eight months of 2025, resulting in the martyrdom of 79 police personnel and 138 civilians.

The violence has not remained confined to the tribal belt. On November 11, Islamabad was rocked by a suicide bombing that killed 12 people and injured 36 others, including lawyers and petitioners.
