KP CM Sohail Afridi summoned by ECP over code of conduct violation

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi tomorrow after he allegedly violated the electoral code of conduct during a political rally in Havelian.

A high-level meeting was held at the ECP headquarters, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, to review Afridi’s participation in the rally and his alleged threats to election officials. During the meeting, the ECP’s legal team briefed the commission members on the situation and the gravity of the allegations.

According to the briefing, Chief Minister Afridi used harsh and inflammatory language against the district administration, police, and election staff during his speech in Havelian. His participation in an election campaign while holding constitutional office is a clear violation of the Election Act 2017.

Expressing serious concern, the ECP decided to summon the KP chief minister to explain his conduct. The Commission also directed the Provincial Election Commissioner to immediately convene an emergency meeting with the Inspector General of Police regarding the matter.

In his Havelian address, Afridi had warned that “something big is about to happen in Pakistan,” adding that those who attempt to manipulate votes on November 23 in Haripur “will not see the light of dawn.”

He further complained that despite fulfilling all legal requirements, an elected chief minister is being prevented from meeting his leader. “Only one option remains now, and we will definitely choose it,” he said. “If we are pushed against the wall, we are lions — we will strike with our claws and hunt as well.”
