Billionaire Elon Musk and Portuguese soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo were among the high-profile guests at a lavish White House dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump for visiting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman on Tuesday.
Ronaldo, 40, who plays for Saudi club Al Nassr, has been part of the wave of aging international stars attracted to Saudi Arabia’s significant spending on football talent despite the kingdom’s controversial human rights record. His contract with Al Nassr is set to expire this summer.
At the dinner, Ronaldo took his seat near the head of the table just seconds before Trump and the Saudi crown prince arrived. “You know, my son is a big fan of Ronaldo,” Trump said in his pre-dinner remarks. “I think he respects his father a little bit more now, just the fact that I introduced you.” Trump’s 19-year-old son, Barron, reportedly met the football legend during the event.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino was also present, marking another appearance at the White House ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the United States will co-host. Ronaldo confirmed that next year’s World Cup, for which Portugal recently qualified, will “definitely” be his last.

Elon Musk, the South African-born Tesla and SpaceX CEO, also attended the black-tie dinner, signaling that tensions between him and Trump may have eased following their public fallout last year. Musk previously served five months as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) and accompanied Trump on a trip to Saudi Arabia in May.
Their relationship soured in July after Musk criticized Trump’s “big, beautiful” spending bill and commented on the president’s alleged involvement in files connected to the late Jeffrey Epstein. Trump had even threatened Musk with deportation at the time.
