Pakistani actor Mawra Hocane has gracefully clarified her recent remarks about choosing impactful stories over ratings-driven dramas, after a snippet from her interview with Mahwash Ajaz circulated online.
Taking to Instagram, the Nauroz star reminded her followers that “context is everything.” She explained that when asked whether she prefers impact or numbers, her answer was simple impact.
“But that impact,” she noted, “is never mine alone; it’s the brilliance of the directors, writers, and producers who shape these stories.”
Mawra shared that while she aims to make thoughtful and responsible choices, she understands that not every project will be perfect.
“I’ll make mistakes, not every drama will be Jama Taqseem, Jafaa, or Nauroz,” she said. “But I’ll keep trying and maybe have some fun along the way. The only thing I’ll never do is a project that harms society or demeans any gender or class.”
Reflecting on her journey, Mawra recalled meeting a young fan years ago who told her she imitates everything Mawra does a moment that made her realize the power of influence and the responsibility artists carry.
Since then, she’s been careful to choose roles that uplift rather than regress the portrayal of women or any community.
While acknowledging that she enjoys the success that comes with strong viewership and social media traction, Mawra emphasized that “numbers are temporary, but impact lasts.” She cited her drama Neem as an example a show that may not have topped ratings but resonated deeply with audiences.
Through her words and choices, Mawra Hocane continues to advocate for meaningful storytelling stories that inspire, empower, and leave a lasting imprint on hearts and minds.
