An AI-generated video showing a glowing football stadium perched atop a skyscraper has gone viral, with millions of viewers mistakenly believing it was part of Saudi Arabia’s official plans for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The futuristic clip, widely shared across social media platforms, quickly captured global attention but it has since been confirmed to be entirely fictional.
According to AFP, the design has no connection to any real Saudi project, including The Line, the kingdom’s ambitious megacity development that will feature a football arena atop a real estate complex.
The viral video was traced back to an Instagram creator known as “hyporaultraworks,” who frequently shares AI-generated architectural concepts.
The designer clarified that the “Sky Stadium” was simply an imaginative creation, not inspired by any existing project, and was meant to explore futuristic possibilities in sports architecture.
“What started as a simple AI concept has taken on a life of its own over 50 million views later, it’s been shared worldwide,” the creator said.
The incident underscores how easily digital content can blur the line between imagination and reality, reminding viewers to verify information before believing or sharing it.
As Saudi Arabia prepares for the 2034 World Cup with massive investments in infrastructure, the episode highlights both the power and the pitfalls of artificial intelligence in shaping public perception.
