Court issues arrest warrant for Ali Amin Gandapur in liquor and weapons case

An Islamabad district and sessions court has once again issued an arrest warrant for former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur in the long-running liquor and weapons recovery case.

The warrant was issued on Wednesday after the PTI leader failed to appear before the court despite repeated summons.

Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan, who presided over the hearing, directed that Gandapur be arrested and produced before the court on November 11, the next date of hearing. The proceedings were then adjourned until that date.

The liquor and weapons recovery case has been pending for years, originally stemming from a 2016 incident at Bara Kahu Police Station in Islamabad. According to police, five Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol, six magazines, a bulletproof vest, three teargas shells, and bottles of alcohol were found in Gandapur’s vehicle.

At the time, Gandapur was serving as a provincial minister in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was charged under Pakistan’s illegal arms and anti-narcotics laws. However, the outspoken PTI leader has consistently rejected the allegations, claiming that the weapons were properly licensed and that the bottle described as liquor actually contained honey, not alcohol.
