Trump warns Israel of serious consequences over West Bank annexation

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Israel, cautioning that any attempt to annex parts of the occupied West Bank could lead to serious consequences for Israel — including the loss of American support.

In an interview with Time magazine on October 15, published today, Trump made it clear that the idea of annexing the West Bank was completely off the table. When asked about Israeli leaders advocating for the annexation of all or part of the territory, Trump responded bluntly, “It’s not going to happen. It won’t happen because I made promises to Arab nations. We have tremendous support from them right now, and this move would destroy that.”

Trump’s remarks come at a tense moment, following Israel’s parliamentary approval of a controversial bill to annex several areas of the occupied West Bank. His warning signals a sharp message that U.S. backing for Israel could be at risk if the government proceeds with annexation.

The president also revealed that he had personally intervened to stop Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from escalating attacks in Gaza. “I told Netanyahu the world is against you. Israel is too small to fight the whole world,” Trump said. He also criticized Israel’s strike on Qatar, calling it a “wrong strategy” that pressured Israel into accepting a ceasefire.

Trump further shared that he plans to visit Gaza in the future, adding that he expects Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords by the end of the year — a move he believes would reshape Middle Eastern diplomacy.

In a surprising remark, Trump mentioned that he was considering whether to pressure Israel for the release of Marwan Barghouti, a prominent Palestinian political leader imprisoned since 2003. Barghouti, often seen as a potential successor within the Palestinian Authority, remains one of the most popular figures in both Gaza and the West Bank.

Arab media recently reported that Barghouti’s name had been removed from the list of prisoners set for release under the Gaza ceasefire deal. Reports also alleged that he was severely beaten in an Israeli jail, suffering multiple broken ribs.
