Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has formally approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan, requesting permission to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail.
In a letter addressed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, the newly elected KP chief minister said he was “under constitutional and moral obligation” to consult with the PTI founder regarding the formation of the provincial cabinet and other key administrative matters.
Afridi stated that despite repeated communications with the federal interior secretary and the Punjab home secretary, his request to meet Khan had not been accommodated. The chief minister emphasized that he needs direct guidance from the PTI founder on matters of governance, law and order, and the province’s economic challenges.
“There is a pressing need to seek direction from the Founder Chairman/Patron-in-Chief Mr. Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi regarding relations with the Federation and other provinces,” Afridi wrote in his letter.

Highlighting the urgency, CM Afridi pointed out that even the province of Punjab has halted inter-provincial wheat trade, creating additional challenges for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sohail Afridi, a young PTI stalwart from Bara tehsil of Khyber district, rose through the party ranks as a student activist and previously served as the provincial minister for higher education. Known for his ideological commitment, Afridi succeeded Ali Amin Gandapur as the KP chief minister earlier this week.
During his maiden speech in the KP Assembly, Afridi described himself as “a champion of confrontational politics,” pledging to carry forward his predecessor’s efforts to secure Imran Khan’s release.
He also issued a stern warning that if the PTI founder were transferred from Adiala Jail without consultation with his family or party, PTI would paralyse the entire country in protest.
