A wave of panic swept through Pakistan’s digital space as rumours spread across social media about a supposed 18-hour nationwide internet shutdown.

Concerned users flooded platforms like X with posts warning of a complete blackout — a claim that quickly gained traction and alarmed many.

However, the truth paints a calmer picture. The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has clarified that there will be no internet shutdown.

Instead, the company announced a scheduled maintenance activity on one of its submarine cables to repair a faulty repeater.

The process, beginning at 11am on October 14, 2025, may lead to temporary slow speeds or minor connectivity disruptions, lasting up to 18 hours.

While such maintenance is necessary to ensure smoother connectivity in the long run, PTCL expressed regret for any inconvenience users may experience.
