Karachi woke up to another rainy morning, marking the second consecutive day of downpours that have drenched roads and disrupted daily life.

Forecasters have warned of “very heavy” rainfall in the coming hours, with strong winds and a looming risk of urban flooding, as the city faces its 10th monsoon spell of the season.

Key areas including Sharea Faisal, Tariq Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Old City experienced moderate showers early Tuesday, while authorities urge residents to stay indoors and avoid vulnerable structures.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the deep depression, currently northeast of Hyderabad, brought 85mm of rainfall in 24 hours and is moving westward, expected to intensify through the day.

The city could receive over 100mm of rain during this spell, posing serious risks to communities in low-lying areas due to Karachi’s overburdened drainage system.

Authorities are mobilizing emergency services, including traffic police, K-Electric, and disaster management teams, to ensure public safety and maintain essential services.

Roads such as Tariq Road have been temporarily designated as alternative routes to prevent traffic congestion in case of flooding.

Schools in Hyderabad, Matiari, and other districts have been closed as a precaution, while rescue teams respond to rain-related accidents and injuries.

Across Sindh, heavy rainfall has affected daily life, causing road mishaps and claiming lives. 

Officials continue to advise residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and prioritize safety as intermittent heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected to persist across Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Badin, and surrounding districts until September 10.
