Pakistani Cricketer Haider Ali Cleared in UK Rape Case

Pakistani international cricketer Haider Ali has been cleared of allegations in the Haider Ali rape case after Greater Manchester Police confirmed there was not enough evidence to support the claims made by a British-Pakistani woman.

According to police and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) sources, the case has officially been closed, bringing relief to the 24-year-old batter who had been under investigation for nearly a month. The development means Ali is now free to travel back to Pakistan or continue his career abroad, as his passport has been returned.

The woman alleged that Ali raped her at a Manchester hotel on July 23, 2025. She claimed they met again on August 1 in Ashford before filing her complaint four days later. Police arrested Ali on August 4 from the players’ canteen at the Spitfire County Cricket Ground in Kent.

During questioning, Ali strongly denied the accusations, telling investigators that he and the woman were friends and that the allegation came as a complete shock to him. He was represented by criminal law expert Barrister Moeen Khan throughout the proceedings.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had provisionally suspended Ali while the case was under investigation. With the police now confirming insufficient evidence, it is likely the board will review his suspension and future in the national squad.

Ali, who made his international debut in 2020, has represented Pakistan in 35 T20 internationals and two ODIs. Known for his aggressive batting style, he was considered one of Pakistan’s promising young talents before the case halted his momentum.
