FIA launches AI-based app to prevent human smuggling, ease immigration

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan has recently intensified its efforts to curb human trafficking and streamline immigration processes.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was briefed by FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar on the new AI-based application at the agency’s headquarters. The project will initially be piloted at Islamabad International Airport.

FIA has introduced digital measures such as the National Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Hotline, launched in collaboration with the ILO and UNODC, to allow victims and citizens to report trafficking cases directly and access welfare services.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the new initiative would play a key role in curbing human smuggling and reducing long queues at airports. He ordered the immediate release of funds to enhance IT infrastructure and directed the upgradation of FIA’s headquarters.

The minister also instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to promptly transfer the newly allocated land for the FIA Academy to the agency. Acknowledging the shortage of personnel, he emphasized the need to initiate recruitment against already approved vacant positions without delay.

He told FIA officials,

“I will ensure provision of all necessary resources, but you will also have to show performance.”

These initiatives, supported by UN partners, reflect Pakistan’s growing reliance on technology and coordinated mechanisms to both combat organized trafficking networks and make immigration procedures more transparent and efficient.
