Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir has firmly dismissed all speculation about a change in Pakistan’s leadership.

Speaking to senior journalist Sohail Waraich in Brussels, the army chief described circulating claims as completely false, saying they harm both the government and the establishment.

“Asim Munir denies rumours,” he stated clearly, adding that he has no personal desire for any other position. “God made me this country's guardian,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to Pakistan’s security above all else.

He called for genuine political reconciliation, insisting that peace between parties is possible only through sincere apologies from all sides. In July, rumours spread that President Asif Ali Zardari might step down and that the COAS could take over. However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi rejected the claims.

“Field Marshal Asim Munir has never expressed any desire to become president,” PM Shehbaz said. Naqvi called the rumours a “malicious campaign” targeting the president, the premier, and the army chief.

During the Brussels interaction, Field Marshal Munir highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing efforts to maintain balanced relations with both China and the United States. “We will not sacrifice one friend for the sake of another,” he said.

The COAS praised US President Donald Trump’s commitment to peace, noting that Pakistan supported his Nobel Peace Prize nomination first. He also warned India not to attempt destabilizing Pakistan through proxies following the Marka-e-Haq conflict.

Field Marshal Munir commended PM Shehbaz for his dedication, including 18-hour workdays during the war, and praised the government and cabinet for their resolve during difficult times. He also urged Afghanistan to stop policies that push the Taliban into Pakistan.

Overseas Pakistanis welcomed the army chief as a war victor during the Brussels event. He spent hours meeting citizens who had traveled long distances, insisting that their dedication and enthusiasm could not be ignored.
