Russia, China, Pakistan Push UN Ceasefire Resolution Amid Iran Strikes

In a bold diplomatic move, Russia, China, and Pakistan have jointly submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.

The proposal comes ahead of an emergency UNSC session, reflecting growing concerns over escalating hostilities in the region.

According to diplomats, the draft has been circulated among Council members, with a request for feedback by Monday evening. However, it remains unclear when the resolution will be formally tabled for a vote. To pass, the resolution needs at least nine votes in favor and no veto from the five permanent members—the United States, France, Britain, Russia, or China.

Amid the rising tensions, Iran has demanded an emergency UN meeting following recent US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities. Iran’s UN envoy, Saeed Iravani, condemned the attacks in a letter to the Council, describing them as unjustified and dangerous. He emphasized that the targeted facilities are under constant surveillance by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and fully comply with international agreements, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Adding to the international outcry, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned both the Israeli strikes on Iran and the recent US actions. During a high-level meeting in Istanbul, foreign ministers from the 57-member bloc denounced what they termed “Israeli aggression against Iran” and called for an end to the hostilities. The OIC expressed alarm at the worsening crisis and announced plans to create a ministerial contact group to engage international and regional stakeholders in de-escalation efforts.

In a follow-up statement, the OIC labeled the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities as a “dangerous escalation” that threatens regional peace and security. The group urged the international community to take “deterrent measures” against further aggression and hold Israel accountable for its actions.

As the Middle East teeters on the brink, the world watches closely to see whether the UN Security Council ceasefire resolution—championed by Russia, China, and Pakistan—can pave the way for peace or if the region will plunge deeper into conflict.
