Mahira Khan Breaks Silence on Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar Controversy

Pakistan’s beloved actress Mahira Khan has finally addressed her long-standing dispute with drama writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, admitting her mistake and reflecting on what went wrong.

During a recent interview, Mahira opened up about the controversy that erupted years ago on social media. She clarified from the start that she and Qamar were never close friends but shared a professional bond while working on the hit drama “Sadqay Tumhare.” “It was a journey completed with love and sincerity,” she said, looking back on the project fondly.

When asked whether she believed she had made any mistake in the public fallout, Mahira responded without hesitation: “Yes, I was wrong. I should have messaged him directly instead of tweeting. He was absolutely right.”

The four word keyphrase Mahira Khan latest interview gained momentum online as she explained what triggered her reaction. Mahira revealed that she was in the middle of filming Neelofar late one night when she came across a disturbing news story about alleged mistreatment of a woman. “I didn’t even check who the woman was. I just reacted to the injustice,” she said, adding that her emotional tweet eventually spiraled into a full-blown controversy.

Her mother, too, played a part in helping her reflect. “My mom was right when she said I should have talked directly, especially when it involves a senior artist. It would’ve been better to express my view in an interview the next day,” she shared.

Mahira also responded gracefully to veteran actor Firdous Jamal’s repeated remarks that she’s no longer suited for lead roles. “Such things used to hurt me a lot early in my career,” she admitted. “But I’ve grown stronger now. The truth is, when you’re a little successful, people support you—but when you become very successful, some start to feel threatened.”

Touching on her past experiences, she recalled the criticism she faced during the Punjab Nahi Jaungi era. “Even people from my own field were criticizing me back then. That time was tough.”

Despite the ups and downs, Mahira Khan continues to stay focused and resilient. Her upcoming Eid-ul-Azha release, Lo Guru, co-starring Humayun Saeed, is already generating buzz, and fans are eagerly awaiting its premiere.
