The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is ready to take the cricket-watching experience to the next level with the introduction of Player Tracking Technology in its 10th season, beginning April 11.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday said that this state-of-the-art feature will give fans detailed, real-time information about each ball bowled throughout the tournament.
This new technology will capture important movements on the field like fielder positioning, bowler run-ups, and batters' stances. The information will then be converted into rich graphics during match broadcasts, giving fans a front-row seat to an analytical aspect of the game.
They include zone-based fielding performance reviews, batting-scoring-zone integration, ball-catching analysis for dismissals, and field placement breakups based on each player's strengths and weaknesses. The technology has the promise of transforming the way the PSL is consumed and watched.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer called the move a “major step” in cricket innovation. “The HBL PSL has always embraced innovation, and the addition of Player Tracking Technology in our upcoming season is another leap forward,” he stated. “Our mission is to offer world-class coverage and elevate the viewing experience for our fans.”
The much-anticipated PSL 10 kicks off on Friday, April 11, with defending champions Islamabad United clashing with two-time winners Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
A total of 34 matches will be played across four venues — Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan — with Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium hosting the grand final on May 18. The tournament will also feature three doubleheaders, including one on Labour Day (May 1).
